EOSCpilot presented at Projects Seminar of CHIST-ERA

On 3 April 2019 one of the partners of EOSCpilot, DANS (Data Archiving and Networked Services in the Netherlands) presented the EOSC and EOSC related projects at the Projects Seminar of CHIST-ERA. CHIST-ERA stands for European Coordinated Research on Long-term Challenges in Information and Communication Sciences & Technologies ERA-NET.

This year the Projects Seminar took place in Bucharest. The yearly event brings together researchers involved in the ongoing CHIST-ERA funded projects and representatives of the research funding organisations. The audience, around 80 persons, were working in various disciplines. The main objective of the seminar is to promote exchanges between the projects and to facilitate the follow-up of the projects by the funders and the review experts.

CHIST-ERA is developing its support to Open Science. In particular, data-intensive research, which is a focus of CHIST-ERA, needs to address the issues of data sharing and experiment reproducibility. That is why CHIST-ERA organised a special Open Science session with key-notes in the field of “Open Evaluation Methodology” and “Open Research Data”.

The key-note presentation by Elly Dijk of DANS, titled Developing the European Open Science Cloud: how DANS supports FAIR and Open Science contained an introduction about Open Science and FAIR data, the DANS services about preserving research data, and a number of EOSC related projects in which DANS is involved: EOSCpilot, EOSC-hub, OpenAIRE Advance, FREYA and FAIRsFAIR.

For most of the members of the audience it was the first time they’ve heard about EOSC, and the projects, so it was very useful to inform them. Also, it was good to spread the idea of Open Science, which wasn’t common behaviour in the scientific practice for these researchers.
