Jean David Malo

Head of Unit, SMEs, Financial instruments and State Aid, DG Research and Innovation, European Commission Jean-David Malo started his career as head of internal control management in the Comité Professionnel de la Distribution de Carburants in France. He joined the European Commission in January 2001. From 2011 to 2013 he was managing a newly created unit in DG Research and Innovation, the main objective of which was to contribute to increase private finance and close market gaps in investing in research and innovation, notably in the context of Horizon 2020.

Carlos Moedas

Carlos Moedas

Carlos Moedas was born in Beja (Portugal) in 1970. He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Higher Technical Institute (IST) in 1993 and completed the final year of studies at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris (France). He worked in engineering for the Suez-Lyonnaise des Eaux group in France until 1998.
He obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School (USA) in 2000, after which he returned to Europe to work in mergers and acquisitions at investment bank Goldman Sachs in London (UK).

Juan Bicarregui

Juan Bicarregui is Head of the Data Services division in the Scientific Computing Department at STFC. His division has responsibility for research and development of the data systems which handle much of the huge volume of scientific data which is produced by the STFC research facilities. Juan leads the PaNdata collaboration which is developing a shared computing infrastructure across all 13 major European Photon and Neutron laboratories.

Donatella is a senjor researcher working with a permanent position at CNR-ISTI since 1988. Before she had a temporary position at the Computer Department of University of Pisa. She was Visiting Researcher at the Arizona State University (USA) in 1987-88. Donatella has served as member of the Scientific Council of the CNR IT Department in 2010-2012.

Matthew Dovey

Matthew J. Dovey works at Jisc, the UK's expert organisation in the use of digital technologies for education and research, as Head of e-Infrastructure Strategy. He oversees work within Jisc Strategic Technologies to develop digital infrastructure services which support and enhance aspects of the research lifecycle – from discovery of information and data, to data analysis and manipulation, and collaboration and research impact and dissemination. Jisc is a beneficiary in the EOSCPilot project working on governance frameworks, policies, data interoperability and identity management.

She was responsible for the direction of the EGI-InSPIRE project and was former Chief Operations Officer taking care of the operations coordination of EGI. She is a promoter of the Open Science Commons and participated in the definition of the EGI governance and service portfolio in the framework of the EGI_DS project.

Yannis Ioannidis is the President and General Director of the “Athena” Research and Innovation Center as well as a Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, an MSc in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California-Berkeley.

Hermann Lederer received a diploma in physics from the University of Munich and a PhD in Natural Sciences from the Technical University of Munich for studies of the quaternary structure of the RNA polymerase promotor complex and its components by neutron small-angle scattering. After a post-doc position at Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry with research stays at ILL (Grenoble), Risoe National Lab (Roskilde), and DESY (Hamburg), he took a position at RZG.

Kevin Ashley is Director of the Digital Curation Centre (DCC), a consortium based at the University of Edinburgh whose mission is to increase the capability and capacity of research organisations around the world to make the most of their research data. He has a long-term interest in the management and reuse of data and the skills and services necessary to support this, and is a frequent speaker on these topics as well as occasional tutor on DCC training courses.

Lucy Bastin

Lucy comes from Birmingham, UK, where her interest in spatial ecology began with work on green corridors for the local Wildlife Trust. After studying Zoology at Nottingham University, she gained a Masters’ in GIS and a PhD on metapopulation and source-sink dynamics of plant species in the urban habitat mosaic. Her postdoctoral work on the EU FP5 FLIERS project focussed on fuzzy classification of vegetation communities from remote sensing and the efficient visualization of this uncertain information.
