An EOSC Roadmap for Service Portfolio
Definition of the Service Portfolio
Shaping the definition of the Servie Porfolio of EOSC has been a significant activity in the EOSCpilot project. Along with the identification of services, the roadmap also focused on the implementation of the EOSC Service Portfolio Management.
After an overview on the position of the portfolio management process in the EOSC framework, its scope, the foreseen steps of the implementation phase, the service management policies and practices in research environments and the different discerned levels of quality by researchers using services are recognised and identified, following extensive interactive meetings with representatives of different science communities.
The exercise reveals the expectation from the EOSC in terms of foremost usability and stability, and that the implementation of services should consider the community differences concerning computing and data services; to fully understand so, an even more detailed exchange with research communities took place during the work in the science demonstrators.
The defined EOSC Service Portfolio Roadmap presents a tentative scenario that, by considering all macro and micro-differences in the scientific services spectrum, brings forward an orthogonal model for building the services portfolio roadmap in which EOSC deployment level and EOSC integration level are the entities that need to be mutually adjusted, depending on the individual research domain.
Overall
The single most commonly referred feature was the ability to use services using single sign-on based on an underlying common AAI framework. This request made it in all top wish lists compiled during the sessions and was repeatedly mentioned. Other commonly referred requests were the inability to share data, the need to gain access to remote data and the requirement for stable and sustained services.
