EOSC will rely on the engagement of (early-career and senior) researchers who both produce and use the content stored on EOSC. These (early-career and senior) researchers will need to be incentivised to both open up their research and use EOSC to open up their research. Simply using EOSC will not be a strong enough incentive for the research community to use EOSC: these (early-career and senior) researchers will need to be rewarded in their research and career assessment for both opening up their research and using EOSC to open up their research. EOSC could play a fundamental role in helping the shift towards an Open Science research and career assessment in Europe by: (1) developing a (new and disruptive) scholarly publishing platform on EOSC (2) developing a (new and disruptive) peer review system on this scholarly publishing platform (3) developing a (new and disruptive) data platform according to FAIR principles (4) developing (new and disruptive) platforms for other Open Science outputs such as open source hardware and software, open educational materials for trainers and learners, and citizen science projects (5) developing (new and disruptive) open metrics associated with these platforms (6) acting as a consortium stakeholder for encouraging and supporting institutions to use EOSC and incorporate Open Science and use of EOSC into institutional research and career assessment.
